The Siren — illustrated symbol of anxiety, a solitary figure curled inward, from the 47sundays visual language by Jay Badenhorst

THE SIREN

[ ANXIETY ]

The siren, a mythical creature often depicted with the alluring voice of a beautiful woman and the body of a fish or bird, is a symbol of temptation and danger. In mythology, sirens lured sailors with their enchanting songs, leading them to shipwrecks or dragging them under the water. This image of being irresistibly pulled beneath the waves resonates with the feeling of anxiety, where an overwhelming force seems to draw us into deeper, darker thoughts. The siren's call represents the seductive but perilous nature of anxious thoughts, which can lead us away from safety and into the depths of our fears.

"This place defines me. Always. Above the water and under it."
