JaY Badenhorst makes things from the things that tried to break him. He is a Cape Town-based pOet, author, creative director, and visual artist, and the foUnder of 47sundays, a studio whose work spans brand identity, photography, design, and curation.

His memoir, Beautiful Monster, is about surviving. His poetry collection, In Your Absence, is about what comes after. The studio, the design work, the curation, all of it comes from the sAme conviction: that a stoRy told honestly is the most dangerous thing a person can make.

He is raising his son in Cape Town. He says it is thE most important work he has ever done.
